It's an exciting time for students who are interested in mathematics and science! Those who are currently in the seventh and eighth grades have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a community of scientific research at one of two outstanding facilities.
Thirty seventh-graders and thirty eighth-graders statewide will be selected to attend GSMS at West Virginia University, and up to 60 current eighth-graders will attend GSMS 2008 at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank.
GSMS for rising 8th-grade students (currently in 7th grade) will be held at WVU July 9 -18. Rising 9th graders will attend July 20 - August 1. The program will be based around a central theme. Students will be form research groups consisting of six students, a mentor and and instructor. Each group will have an independent project that will be a component of the overall larger project. For more detail, please see About GSMS
Rising ninth-grade students have a choice in scientific summer experiences.
Sixty students will be on location at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and immersed in the researh activities of this national research center, August 3 - 16. While in residence, students will work in small teams to conduct research by observing the universe with a 40-foot diameter raio telescope, interacting with NRAO staff scientists. For more detail, please see About GSMS.
It's time to start you journey into the wonderful world of science!
