Student Eligibility
- Must be a resident of West Virginia
- Must attend high school in West Virginia and plan to
be in attendance next year.
- Must be a junior at the time of application
- Must not graduate before January 2013
- Must have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 or be
in top 10% of class
- Must have no semester/term grade lower than a "C."
- Must be dedicated to learning and should possess an outstanding
native ability
- Must be willing to accept academic challenges
- Must meet the standardized testing requirement by any one of the following:
- a score at Distinguished level on at least one of the WESTEST2 sections taken during the sophomore year;or
- a composite score at or above the
90th percentile on the ACT, PLAN, PSAT, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
or another standardized test; or
- a score of three (3) or higher on an AP exam

Faculty Eligibility and Requirements
- Must exhibit creativity
- Must be well-versed in their subjects
- Must have a broad range of interests and experiences
- Must relate well to bright students of high school age
- Must be willing to provide leadership in integrating
subject matter in the sciences, humanities and the arts
- Must be willing to participate in a living-learning situation
which includes evenings and weekends.
Staff Eligibility and Requirements--Interns,
resident director and resident assistants
- Must have completed two years (64 credit hours) of
college study prior to the beginning
of the program and must have graduated from high school no later than 2010.
- Shall mentor students and assist faculty as required
- Shall plan recreational activities and travel for
small groups
- Shall provide a communications link between
the students and faculty
- Shall serve as role models for Academy participants
- Shall be responsible for students while in the residence hall and on trips across campus
